Love in the Time of Revolution shows Communist China in action and is one of the saddest films I have seen, it documents how the people of Hong Kong lost their fight for democracy and the rule of law.
In 2019, in response to the Chief Executive of Hong Kong’s proposed law to allow the extradition of criminal suspects from Hong Kong to mainland China, ordinary people protested peacefully. A million, up to 2 million people marched against the extradition bill. The government ignored the protesters and the small Parliamentary opposition. A criminal element and an influx of migrants from Communist mainland China worked against the ordinary Hong Kongers.
This powerful movie is full of action and emotion — all for the love of freedom, democracy and the rule of law. The violence is not Hollywood fiction, but real, state-sponsored violence against citizens. The voices of the Hong Kongers are authentic and heartfelt.
Don’t think it cannot happen here in Western Australia, where there is a weak Parliamentary opposition and the State Government ignores the voices of ordinary citizens.
